Washington is more than just a city for Jeff and his family– it’s a way of life and the root of his aspirations for Mayor. As a successful businessman and proven leader, Jeff Mohesky has the experience and vision to serve its citizens by leading Washington to the future.
Jeff Mohesky’s connection to Washington traces back in his family history. Jeff’s grandfather moved here in the early 1900s, started and managed a small gas station and made a home for his family. They’ve been here ever since. Jeff was born and raised in Washington. He attended East Central College, followed by Columbia College, after graduating from Washington High School.
Jeff, like his father and grandfather, built his own small business into a successful company. Building a company from the ground up, Jeff knows how to get the fundamentals right – how to meet payroll, repay loans, and hire the best. He knows how to develop and market a new product or idea. More than anything, he’s learned how to keep costs low, improve services, and get the job done. Twenty years of experience as a businessman in the city of Washington taught Jeff important lessons that will help him make city government more effective, efficient, and accountable.
Besides running his own business, Jeff has been involved in Washington’s government. In 2008, he was elected by the Ward 2 citizens as City Councilman. Currently, he also serves on the Board of Public Works, Board of Transportation, Board of Solid Waste, and the Half Cent Sales Tax Renewal Committee. He has also served in the Backstoppers non-profit organization, was youth leader at Our Lady of Lourdes, 8th grade PSR teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes for many years, and a member of the Reap Team, an Archdiocese of St. Louis Youth Ministry.
Those skills learned in the business world and thru personal endeavors will help him in a position such as mayor. More than that, it’s given him the perspective to shape a vision and a blueprint for Washington’s future. A dedicated family man, married for 20 years and with 3 children, Jeff is deeply committed to building a safer Washington; a great city for living, working, and raising a family; a city with expanded opportunity and a higher quality of life. He will encourage protection of our tax dollars with a more effective, efficient and accountable approach to government while balancing it with encouragement to our Economic Development Department to strengthen economic opportunities and prosperity in our city, bringing with it new businesses and good-paying jobs. He’ll spur the city government to make smart infrastructure investments to help eliminate flooding, to improve standards and to protect our neighborhoods. Jeff’s experience in business and in government has shown him how cities work and how to get results and he can use this experience to make government work better for all of us: more efficient and effective, more accountable, and more responsive to its citizens.
